Prom
Remember the good old days of prom with ruffled tuxedos, poofy chiffon
dresses and all the fun that defined the event? Join us as we capture that
nostalgia at YMCA Prom. This gala will be held on January 12, 2008 at the
Eastern Greenwich Civic Center. Jim and Ginge Cabrera of Greenwich and Jeff
and Cathy Dishner of Old Greenwich will co-chair the event. Proceeds from the
gala event will literally make dreams come true as it benefits the Greenwich
Family YMCA expansion and renovation project. The expansion includes a
50-meter by 25-yard Olympic pool, regulation gymnasium, and state-of-the-art
space for 60 more children to enjoy high-quality childcare. Proceeds from the
event will allow the YMCA to fulfill its mission to the community - to become
a full-service family center addressing the needs of youth, adults, and
seniors. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call Kathryn
Davids at the YMCA, 203-869-1630.
Sports Nutrition for You and Your Child
Sports performance is greatly influenced by what you feed your body. Linda
Arpino, MA, RD, CDN, and nationally recognized author of Eat Fit, Be Fit:
Health and Weight Management Solutions, sports nutrition coach and registered
dietitian will conduct this program. Participants will learn how the body
efficiently uses foods as fuel to maximize performance. Drinks and sports
bars, meals and snacks will be analyzed for sugar, fat and fiber and other
nutrient balance. Suggestions will be given on what to eat and what should be
avoided at critical times: training, pre-workout snacks, during performance
and competition, and after an event. Hydration and fluid replacement as well
as sodium will be discussed. Arpino will sign books for those who purchase
them. Free. Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 12:00pm.
Healthy Kids Day
Put Some Play in Your Day!
Join us on Healthy Kids Day! On Saturday, April 12,YMCA communities across
the country will celebrate YMCA Healthy Kids® Day. YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a
national community outreach event hosted by local YMCAs each spring to promote
healthy lifestyles for kids and families. It’s a free, fun-filled day of
activities that celebrates how fitness can be exciting, as well as introduces
children to an array of YMCA programs that teach them healthy behaviors and
healthy ways to play – an essential lesson in learning how to care of
themselves throughout their lifetimes. But YMCA Healthy Kids® Day is not just
about physical fitness, and it’s not just about one day – it’s about the
many opportunities that children and their families have at their YMCAs to be
active and engage in a lifestyle that encompasses spirit, mind and body every
day. You’re never too young, and it’s never too late, to start some
healthy habits!
