News & Press :: Mucci Will Serve as President and CEO

Greenwich, CT-July 23, 2007… The Greenwich Family YMCA is pleased to announce the selection of Bernard M. Mucci as President and CEO. Mucci has more than 20 years of experience in non-profit leadership, previously serving as Executive Director at two New England United Ways, Area Director for the United Negro College Fund, and Senior Director of Operations for the Connecticut Audubon Society. He also served as Vice President of Community and Government Affairs for a Fortune 100 company. As President and CEO, Mucci will lead the YMCA's 135 full and part time employees and serve as a member of the Board of Directors.

Mucci's appointment comes at an exciting time for the Greenwich Family YMCA. This fall, the YMCA will open a new 50-meter by 25-yard Olympic Pool and expand competitive and recreational programs for children, adults, seniors and individuals with special needs. Mucci will lead the Y through the remainder of the expansion and renovation project which will equip the Y with a centrally located childcare center, new gymnasium with racquetball and squash courts, teen fitness center, handicapped access throughout and restoration of the building's historical features.

"I am very happy to join the Greenwich Family YMCA team. Greenwich is a dynamic and unique community and I hope to uphold the Y's reputation as a first class community center in the heart of town," said Mucci. "My primary focus will be to work with the Board and staff to raise the funds necessary to complete the ambitious expansion and renovation project," Mucci said.

"Bernie is the right person to lead the Y to the next level as we continue to focus on raising the funds necessary to build the finest Y in the country, which Greenwich needs and deserves. Bernie is a seasoned executive with extensive non-profit and government affairs experience and our Board is proud to welcome him to the Y family," said Bob Goergen, Vice Chairman of the YMCA Board of Directors.

Mucci replaces John Eikrem, who served as President and CEO for ten years. Eikrem is credited with initiating the expansion and renovation project. He will remain at the Y until September to ensure a seamless transition for the new President and CEO.
