Hundreds of Greenwich Residents Celebrate YMCA Olympic-size Pool at Big Splash Events

Greenwich, CT - November 8, 2007… A crowd of hundreds of Greenwich residents, YMCA members and donors cheered at the Greenwich Family YMCA’s Big Splash events to celebrate the new Olympic-size pool. Bernard Mucci, YMCA President and CEO, welcomed guests to a poolside cocktail party on Friday, November 2 and discussed what the expanded YMCA will mean to the Greenwich community. “Today’s event has been 10 years in the making. This pool was built to fill a need- Greenwich needed space for both competitive and recreational swimming programs. So with a lot of work and a lot of help from so many of you here, we stand in this beautiful facility today,” Mucci said.

“As a board, we knew we needed to improve the Y’s aging facility in order to better serve members. The board worked with members and the community to determine the best YMCA facility to fit our needs. The path provided in those early discussions has lead us here to this beautiful 50-meter by 25-yard Olympic pool,” said Bob Goergen, YMCA Chairman of the Board. Goergen honored key volunteers including John Margenot, former YMCA Board Chairman and First Selectman; Lee Dayton, former YMCA Board Chairman; and Sally Lawrence and Ned Lamont, former Capital Campaign Chairpersons for their hard work.
