Commemorate Official Opening of Greenwich Family YMCA Olympic-Size Pool

Greenwich, CT-September 10, 2007…The Greenwich Family YMCA announced that the new 50-meter by 25-yard Olympic pool will open with a big splash this fall. The YMCA will auction the first ceremonial dives into the pool for one lucky man, woman, boy and girl. The auction officially opens Monday, September 17 but the public can peruse the catalog now by visiting the YMCA home page, www.gwymca.org 

The official opening day events on Sunday, November 4 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. will allow the community to experience the pool. An opening ceremony will take place at 12:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The 50-meter by 25-yard true Olympic pool is part of the Y's expansion and renovation project, which also includes a new gymnasium with racquetball and squash courts, a full-day centrally located childcare center and underground parking garage. While maintaining the building's historic architecture, the current facility is undergoing a complete renovation to better accommodate existing programs and allow for new initiatives such as a teen fitness center, handicapped access throughout the building, a full-time gymnastics center, warm water therapy, expanded offerings for children with special needs and more.
