TEAM COMPETITION
The Greenwich Marlins Swim team has two seasons - Short course (Fall-Winter) season and Long course (Spring-Summer) season.

THE SHORT COURSE runs from September through March. Swimming is done in 25-yard pools. During this season Marlins Swim Team competes in two different swim leagues: The Connecticut YMCA League and Connecticut Swimming Inc. (USA Swimming). Connecticut Swimming Inc. (CSI) is the local governing body for competitive swimming in the state of Connecticut. CSI is one of 59 local swimming committees of USA Swimming, the national governing body for competitive swimming in the United States.

  • Connecticut YMCA League
The team competes against swim clubs in other YMCAs in Connecticut. (Marlins vs. one other team). Every swimmer in each age group is expected to participate. Swimmers will compete in age groups- 8 and Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18. In these meets, the coach enters each swimmer in event where he/she can best benefit the team.

  • CSI Swim Meets
All age group swimmers will participate in USA sanctioned swim meets and Championships. Swimmers are not required to meet time standards for entry and events are divided by sex and age group. (10 and Under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18). Swimmers from many teams are entered in each event. The events are divided in to heats so each swimmer is competing with another of equal ability. The meets are qualified for all ages. Thus at CSI meets, swimmers are assured appropriate competition and also are encouraged to focus on the goal of improving their times rather than "winning the race".

Championship meets. The team will participate in both YMCA and USA Swimming Championships at the end of the season. These meets are open to Connecticut registered swimmers only. Championship meets have time standards for entry.

Marlins swim team also belongs to the YMCA swim league. During the fall season, swimmers will try to achieve times to qualify for the New England YMCA championship.

THE LONG COURSE season runs from May through July. Most of the swim meets are done in 50-meter pools. The Marlins swim team will compete in the Connecticut YMCA league and few Connecticut Swimming Inc. USA Swimming sanctioned swim meets.

Championship meets. The team will participate in both YMCA and USA Swimming Championships.
